The Celtic Irish Santa, in true Irish tradition, is taking a little break from his delivery duties to play a quick song or two on his banjo, an instrument that made its way to Ireland from America through traveling vaudeville and minstrel shows around 1840. Music plays an important role in Irish Christmas celebrations and many children receive musical instruments from Santa. Santa's sack is filled with a St. Patrick doll, castle, harp, and a good luck teddy bear. As he resumes his travels from village to village, the Irish Santa can be seen waving and calling out "Nollaig Shona" to all, Gaelic for Happy Christmas.

Anne can't resist the blossoms' sweet scent and the delicate colors. She has to pick a few to give to a loved one or a close friend. Like all angels, she is the guardian of mankind, and especially of the Irish.

You will find the friendly Celtic Irish Snowman and Lucky, the leprechaun, who have both found their "Pot of Gold." They have spent years and years of searching at the end of every rainbow after each storm throughout the green hills of Ireland. As you can tell by the smile on their faces, their search is over. "God made the grass, the air and the rain; and the grass, the air and the rain made the Irish and the Irish turned the grass, and the air and the rain back to God." Sean O'Faolain

C1843H Ireland Santa The Irish Santa wears the traditional color of Ireland, green. Green has always been associated with Ireland as a nation, and with the revolutionary groups within it. Green is the color of independence and is the adopted color of Ireland today. Santa plays his fiddle. He can play all four types of Irish music and the associated dances which are the jig, reel, hornpipe, and the set dances. In Santa's purse you'll find candles that are to be lit and placed in windows on Christmas Eve to guide Joseph and Mary and other poor travelers who might be looking for shelter on such a night. The candles are usually red in color and decorated with sprigs of holly. There's also the Irish flag and a doll house which represents the tradition of Whitewashing the House. In many rural areas of Ireland still today the custom of whitewashing the houses and stores prevails. Long ago, it included the whole farm, inside and out. The women would scrub and polish everything until it shone. The men would take a bucket of whitewash and purify everything in honor of the coming of the Christ child. The mask in Santa's pocket represents the boys on St. Stephen's Day, parading around the town. Lastly, there's a toy sheep, representing the many shepherds that tend the flock of the hills of Ireland.

So Santa is bringing bushes and yellow-edged, bell-shaped Christmas Bell Flowers to families throughout the country. The Aussie Santa cuddles a Koala bear, a pouched mammal native to Australia. The furry little creatures are best known as Koala Bears but are also called Australian bears. They are treasured by Australians. Also, Santa has kangaroo dolls in his bag. Kangaroos, another popular Australian animal, are hopping, pouched mammals found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea.
